Welcome to the Swedish School of Calgary. We are a Heritage Language School teaching children between ages 3 and 18 years of age 2.5 hours per week. The goal of our school is to teach the Swedish language to the children as well as maintain and further develop the language skills in children who already speak Swedish. All classes are conducted in Swedish. Class times are Saturdays 9:30 am to 12 noon.

Who can attend?

Children attending the Swedish School must have a basic understanding of the Swedish language as all classes are conducted in Swedish.
The children must be 3 years of age and potty trained.

School history

The Swedish Language School was founded in 1975 with nine children at the preschool level.

The school has at times had close to 40 students at the following levels:
Preschool and Kindergarten (ages 3 – 5)
Swedish Elementary School: Grades 1-6 (ages 6-13),
Preparatory Swedish classes (ages 6-13)
Advanced Swedish: Credit courses 15, 25, and 35 (ages 12-18).

Helping out

All parents or guardians of the students are required to help with a variety of activities during the school year. Parents or guardian will be assigned certain volunteer duties at the beginning of the year so that everyone can contribute to the success of our school as equally as possible.

From time to time, the Swedish Language School in Calgary is looking for interested individuals to join in
teaching, volunteering or reading to the children.

If you are interested in joining our school, please contact us.
